FAQ for custom bespoke arrays

1) What is the goal of an antibody array experiment?
To compare the expression level of hundreds of proteins simultaneously between samples; to characterize pathways or to identify biomarkers.

2) How many antibodies could I include per array?
Around 100 in duplicates on a 14-arrays slide. Around 500 in duplicates in a 2-arrays slide.

3) How many samples can I analyse?
14 different samples per slide, as a function of experiment size.

4) What type of sample can I send?
Cell pellet, tissue, cell culture supernatant, serum ...

5) What is the required quantity of starting biological material?
> 1 Million cells or 10mg of tissue, to extract and label >100 micro-g of total protein extract; or 20 ml of serum.

6) How do you check antibody specificities ?
Most manufacturers attempt to verify antigen recognition for their antibodies. MBC can check this specificity in the presence of unsurpassed antigenic diversity and deliver a much higher level of confidence that your antibodies will perform the task envisaged without the risk of wasting valuable time and energy in the laboratory.

7) What type of controls do you include in the array?
Housekeeping proteins for normalization, labeled proteins for spotting, BSA for non-specific background.

8) Can you use a sandwich detection method ?
Yes.

9) Is the method quantitative ?
Semi-quantitative. But possible to include a standard curve for real quantification.

10) How many replicates shall I do ?
MicroBioChips refuses to conduct experiments with less than 3 replicates

11) What is the delivery time?
6-8 weeks, depending on the complexity of the tailored experiment
